What We Believe

We are a confessionally Reformed Baptist church. We affirm and teach in accordance with the 1689 Second London Baptist Confession of Faith.
We affirm the Dallas Statement on Social Justice & The Gospel. As such, we reject the teachings of critical race theory, cultural Marxism and postmodernism.

Abridged Statement of Faith

God as He has revealed Himself to us in the Bible

We believe in God as He has revealed Himself to us in the Bible. We believe that there is one and only one God. We believe that He is infinite, eternal, and unchangeable in His being and in His glory, and has majesty, power, authority, wisdom, knowledge, holiness, justice, mercy, grace, love, and all other perfections. To Him, and to Him alone, belongs the highest worship, allegiance, obedience, trust, and love of every created being in the universe.

One God has eternally existed as three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

We believe that this one God has eternally existed as three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that these three persons of the trinity are distinct in personhood but one in substance and nature, being one and only one God.

God is lord and king over all of history

We believe that God is lord and king over all of history. We believe that God knows all things perfectly and with certainty, including all future events. In His wisdom, righteousness, and goodness, He is in complete control of everything that happens. We believe that God is sovereign over all things, yet not in such a way as to make God the author of evil, nor in such a way as to take away the reality and responsibility of the choices made by those He created.

God created everything

We believe that God created everything that exists, and that in His original creation everything He made was good. We believe that the entire universe belongs to Him and is under His rightful authority.

The Bible is the Word of God

We believe that the Bible is the Word of God. We believe that it was inspired by God in such a way that whatever the Bible says, God says. Therefore, it is completely without error in everything it teaches. It is our supreme authority in faith and life, as it carries the authority of God Himself. It is sufficient for everything we need for life and service for God, and it is clear in everything we need to believe and do.

God created the human race in His image and for His glory

We believe that God created the human race in His image and for His glory. Our first parents were created without sin and in perfect fellowship with God, but they chose to rebel against Him. As a result, all of us who are descended from them are born guilty sinners before God. We are also all born with a nature that is corrupted by sin in every part of our being. Every human being is a sinner who deserves condemnation and wrath from God, and no one can save themselves or even contribute to their own deliverance.

Jesus Christ, our Savior and our Lord

We believe in Jesus Christ, our Savior and our Lord. We believe that He is God the Son who became truly man while remaining truly God. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a perfect life of sinless obedience to God the Father. He died on the cross in place of sinners, bearing on Himself the wrath sinners deserve for rebellion against God and paying the penalty for their sin. He rose again from the dead on the third day in a glorified body, victorious forever over sin, death, and hell. He ascended into heaven, where He sits at the right hand of God the Father and intercedes for His people. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingly reign will never end. He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords over all of creation, and He is the only Savior for sinners.

The Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit. We believe that He inspired the human writers of the Bible to write God’s word without error. We believe that He miraculously conceived our Lord Jesus in the womb of the virgin Mary, and that He descended on Jesus at His baptism. We believe that He was poured out on the church at Pentecost. We believe that He convicts sinners of sin, righteousness, and judgment. We believe we are born again by the Holy Spirit, and that every believer is baptized by the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ at conversion. We believe that the Holy Spirit lives inside every believer in Jesus. We believe that He is the down payment and guarantee of our inheritance in Christ. We believe that we put sin to death only by His power, and that He remakes us into the image of Jesus, producing the fruit of the Spirit in our lives. We believe that the Holy Spirit gives believers both the spiritual gifts and the power to serve Christ in the church and in the world.

The Gospel

We believe in the Gospel. We believe that God is a holy and righteous God who hates sin and must punish it, and that He is also a gracious and merciful God who loves and chose to save sinners even though they are rebels against Him. We believe that we are sinners who deserve the wrath of God for our rebellion against Him. We believe that Jesus, God the Son in human flesh, lived the life we should have lived and then died the death we deserved to die, taking on Himself the penalty for sin. We believe that Jesus rose again from the dead in eternal victory over sin and death. We believe that God now graciously commands all people everywhere to repent of their rebellion against Him and believe this Gospel, and that everyone who does so will be saved from God’s wrath and receive the free gift of eternal life.

Salvation

We believe that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. Salvation is purely the work of God, flowing from His free and sovereign grace.  We do not deserve it, we do not earn it, and we do not contribute anything to it. We receive this gracious gift of salvation through faith, which is itself a gift from God. In faith, we not only believe that the Gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ is true, but we also repent of our sinful rebellion against God and trust in Christ to save us and to rule over us as our Lord. The object of our faith is Christ and Christ alone, in all that He is and all that He has done as revealed in Scripture. There is no other Savior.

The Riches of Salvation

We believe in all the riches of salvation as declared to us in the Bible. In salvation, we who once were dead in our sins have been born again by the Holy Spirit, and we are now alive in Christ. In salvation, we are justified by faith in Jesus, and all of our sins are forgiven. In salvation, we have been adopted as the children of God. In salvation, we are now indwelt by the Holy Spirit, who lives in us, remakes us into the image of Christ, and gifts us and empowers us for service. In salvation, we are kept and preserved by the power of God so that all who are born again will persevere to eternal life.

Unconditional Election

We believe in unconditional election. We believe that God has chosen people to be saved on the basis of His sheer mercy alone, without regard for their merit or future actions. The Scripture teaches that this election was prior to the foundation of the world and will be effective to bring about the salvation of all who are chosen. Rather than stifling evangelism, we believe that election motivates our evangelistic witness because it ensures that there are people who will respond to the gospel and be saved.

The Church

We believe in the Church. We believe in the universal church, which is made up of all true believers in Jesus in every place and time. We also believe in the local church, which is an assembly of baptized believers in Jesus who are committed to each other and to God to be the body of Christ to one another and to the world around them. We believe that every follower of Jesus should be a committed member of a local church. We believe that a biblical local church submits to the written word of God as the final authority in all that it believes and does. We believe that a biblical local church worships God, teaches God’s word faithfully, prays together, and celebrates baptism and the Lord’s Supper together. Believers in a biblical local church encourage and admonish one another, bear one another’s burdens, and work to meet one another’s needs. We believe that a biblical local church exercises church discipline when needed. We believe that a biblical church is led by pastors/elders/overseers (which are the same office in Scripture), and is served by deacons as needed. We believe that a biblical local church proclaims the gospel and seeks the salvation of those who are lost, both locally and globally. We believe that biblical local churches cooperate together for the advance of the gospel.

Baptism

We believe in Christian baptism, the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe that baptism is a public profession of faith which symbolizes and proclaims that the believer has died to sin and risen to walk in newness of life in Christ, that the believer’s sins have been washed away by the sacrifice of Christ, and that the believer has been baptized by the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ. We affirm that every believer should be baptized and that only believers should be baptized.

The Lord's Supper

We believe in the Lord’s Supper, in which we eat bread and drink the fruit of the vine together in order to remember that the body of Jesus was broken and the blood of Jesus was shed for our salvation. In the Lord’s Supper, we proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes again, we reaffirm our unity as we eat and drink together as one body in Christ, and we anticipate the great wedding feast of the Lamb, when we will enjoy unbroken fellowship with Him forever. We believe that biblical churches should celebrate the Lord’s Supper regularly, and that only believers who are walking in fellowship with Christ and His church should eat the bread and drink from the cup.

The Mission of the Church

We believe in the mission of the church, which is to make disciples of all people groups on earth. We believe that we should engage our community to share the gospel with the lost and to disciple believers in the fellowship of the church where we live. We believe that we should pray diligently and give generously for the global advance of the gospel, and that we should send workers to other peoples of the world who need access to the gospel.

Human Life

We believe in the sanctity of human life. We believe that God created the human race, both male and female, in His image, and that He endowed every human being with worth and dignity. We believe that human life begins at conception, and that it should be protected and nurtured from that point on. We believe that Christians should stand for human dignity, stand against every form of injustice, racism, and abuse, and seek to relieve human suffering when it is in their power to do so.

Marriage

We believe in marriage and the family as prescribed for us in the Bible. We believe that God established marriage at the beginning of the human race as a lifelong covenant of love, faithfulness and mutual support between one man and one woman. We believe that Christian marriage is a picture of the relationship between Christ and His church. We believe that children flourish best in a biblical family, and that parents have the primary authority and responsibility for providing their children’s needs, disciplining their children in what is right and wrong, sharing the gospel with their children, and training their children in the ways of the Lord.

The Return of Christ

We believe in the return of Christ. We believe that Jesus will come back, visibly and gloriously, on a day known only to God. We believe that He will judge everyone who has ever lived. All of those who have not believed in Him will be condemned to eternal judgment in hell because of their sins. All of those who have trusted in Christ and been clothed in His righteousness will receive resurrection bodies like His and will live with Him in eternal joy and peace. We believe that the present heavens and earth will pass away, and the saints will dwell with the Triune God in the new heavens and the new earth, in the light of the glory of God, forever.
